El Presidente de la Nación, Alberto Fernández, al intervenir en la Cumbre Virtual de Líderes del Grupo de los 20 el jueves 26 de marzo, pronunció el siguiente discurso:

Nos convocamos en un momento único de la historia que nos impone actuar con valentía. No debemos paralizarnos ni temer. Mucho menos podemos resignarnos. Tenemos que dar una respuesta creativa en este presente que nos ha tocado en suerte. No hay lugar para demagogias ni improvisaciones. Enfrentamos el dilema de preservar la economía o la salud de nuestra gente. Nosotros no dudamos en proteger integralmente la vida de los nuestros. Con esa convicción, hemos tomado decisiones en Argentina a partir de la mejor evidencia científica disponible. Así lo seguiremos haciendo. Quisiera que todos compartan nuestra visión. Estoy convencido de que no seremos eficaces si no aceptamos que el mundo ha cambiado para siempre. Poder sortear esta crisis y enfrentarnos a ese mundo que emerge, nos exige diseñar y suscribir un gran Pacto de Solidaridad Global.
Nada será igual a partir de esta tragedia. Tenemos que actuar juntos, ya mismo, porque ha quedado visto que nadie se salva solo. La urgencia que marcan las muertes nos obliga a crear un Fondo Mundial de Emergencia Humanitaria que sirva para enfrentar, mejor equipados de insumos, el contexto que vivimos. La investigación sobre el COVID-19, el conocimiento científico y médico, también debe ser un bien público global. El tiempo de los codiciosos ha llegado a su fin. Como enseña el Papa Francisco, tenemos que abrir nuestros ojos y nuestros corazones para actuar con una nueva sensibilidad. Estas decisiones no pueden quedar libradas a la lógica del mercado, ni preservadas a la riqueza de individuos o naciones. Es hora de aprovechar este momento único para crear soluciones económicas tan extraordinarias como extraordinarios son los problemas sociales que atravesamos. Celebro que el FMI y el Banco Mundial adviertan el ocaso del presente. Celebro que reconozcan lo insostenible de las deudas que soportamos los países más postergados.
Debemos desafiar este presente con el mismo coraje que tuvo este G-20, cuando asumió el daño causado por los paraísos fiscales, por el endeudamiento voraz y por la concentración de la riqueza. El secreto del futuro pasa por diseñar políticas que resguarden el empleo, la producción y las mejores condiciones de vida usando todas las herramientas económicas para proveer liquidez global. Como nunca antes, nuestra condición humana nos demanda solidaridad. No podemos quedar pasivos frente a sanciones que suponen bloqueos económicos que solo asfixian a los pueblos en medio de esta crisis humanitaria. Sin mesianismos ni prepotencias debemos iniciar un tiempo de diálogo global que contenga a todos. De ese modo, la Humanidad superará esta pandemia. Pero lo que además logrará es acabar con el vicio de la exclusión social, la depredación ambiental y la codicia de la especulación. Muchas gracias.

We come together at a unique time in history that demands that we act with courage.
We should not feel paralysis or fear. Least of all should we resign ourselves.
Our duty is to offer a creative response at this juncture that we are facing.
There is no time for demagogy or for impmrovisation. We face the dilemma of safeguarding the economy or the health of our people. We do not hesitate to fully protect the lives of our people.
With that conviction, we have made decisions in Argentina on the basis of the best scientific evidence available. We will continue to do so.
I would like everyone to share our view. I am convinced that we will not act effectively unless we accept that the world has changed forever.
Being able to overcome this crisis and facing this world that is emerging requires that we design and adhere to a great Global Solidarity Pact.
Nothing will be the same after this tragedy. We need to act right now, here and now, because it has become obvious that no one can save themselves on their own.
The urgency imposed by the deaths requires that we créate a Global Humanitarian Emergency Fund that will allow us to be better equipped with supplies to deal with the current context.
Research on COVID19 should also be a global public good. Medical and scientific knowledge should be made universally available at affordable prices.
The time of the greedy has come to an end. As Pope Francis teaches, we need to let the scales fall off our eyes and hearts in order to act with a new sensibility.
These decisions cannot be made to depend on market logic or on how wealthy or affluent individuals or nations are. It is time to take advantage of this unique moment to create economic solutions as extraordinary as extraordinary the social problems we are experiencing.
I welcome the fact that the IMF and World Bank can see the end of the present. I welcome that they recognise the unsustainability of the debt burden that our countries, the most relegated ones, must bear.
We need to rebuild global coexistence on the basis of solidarity. To challenge this present with the same courage that the G20 had when it dealt with the damage caused by tax havens, voracious debt levels and the concentration of wealth.
The key to the future lies in the design of policies that safeguard jobs, production and the best living conditions by using all economic instruments to provide global liquidity.
Like never before, our human condition demands solidarity. We cannot remain passive in the face of sanctions involving economic embargoes that only stifle people in the middle of this humanitarian crisis.
With no messianism or arrogance, we must embark on an era of global dialogue that makes room for all.
That is how mankind will overcome this pandemic. But it will also put an end to the vice of social exclusion, environmental depredation and the greed of speculation.
